Designers Can't Wait to Try These 5 Trends in 2022

Home decor trends are ever-changing, but according to Designer & Manager of Production Design at Living Spaces, Jessica Harris, you can expect design this year to be “perfectly imperfect.” Canopy beds, floral wallpaper (yes, we said ‘floral’) and vintage design will be all the rage this year. Here are the very best home decor trends in 2022 that you won’t want to pass by.

1. Vintage is Making a Comeback

As designers are looking to more sustainable decorating options this year, vintage furniture is back, along with vintage-inspired textiles, fabric and patterns. Vintage steals the hearts and designer eyes of many because of its ability to transform ho-hum rooms to unique statement pieces. Find your next trendy vintage piece at a thrift store, flea market, Craigslist or even Facebook Marketplace.

2. Canopy Beds Replace Upholstered and Sleigh Beds

While Upholstered headboards and wooden sleigh beds were a thing for a while, canopy beds are making an entrance this year, giving bedrooms a modern twist on the old king’s and queen’s quarters. Instead of draping four-poster beds with heavy fabrics, opt for minimalistic and sheer textiles instead.

3. DIY Accent Pieces Are More of a Thing

Whether you take a stab at an elaborate Pinterest DIY tutorial or complete a long put-off project, designers project a turn towards decor created by you as there will be a shift towards “mindful making,” the practice of creating to calm the mind. Who knows, you may love both making and showing off your own macrame flower pot or quilt.

4. Biophilic Design Creates Calm Spaces

Biophilic design has been gaining popularity with designers in recent years and we know why: Plant-filled interiors help create calming environments that connect us to nature. Studies show that having living plants in your home reduces stress and improves concentration and air quality. So for any of you who are planning to continue to work from home this year, try adding a plant or two to each room of your home, especially living areas and bedrooms.

5. More Homes are Getting ‘Smarter’ and More ‘Techie’

Digital interior design was already rising before COVID, and now that designers and homeowners have practiced social distancing, we’ll see the efficiency of online interior design become even bigger in 2022. From smart security systems and doorbells, Alexa and Google Home/Nest devices to decor apps and virtual staging, homes are getting updated with tech.
