5 Ways to Celebrate 4th of July Pandemic-Style

With most traditional events canceled due to the Coronavirus outbreak, 4th of July will look a bit different this year. We’ve come up with a list of fun and patriotic ways to celebrate Independence Day while social distancing. Let us know which is your favorite by leaving us a comment!

1. Folsom’s Star-Spangled Drive-In

If you’re a Folsom, Cameron Park, or El Dorado Hills resident, you’re quite familiar with the annual fanfare of the Folsom Pro Rodeo and fireworks show. Of course, in light of COVID19, these favored events are canceled, but an alternative event has been planned. The Folsom Chamber of Commerce is producing the only known live fireworks show in the region. “Folsom’s Star-Spangled Drive-In” will take place at Folsom Ranch, located on the south side of Highway 50, on the evening of July 3. Presale tickets are available at www.folsomprorodeo.com.

Some neighborhoods are hosting parades where you can decorate your cars, trucks and bikes for the 4th of July, similar to what some have done for 2020 high school graduates. Streamers, flags, and red, white, and blue balloons are just some of the things you can use to get festive.

Car parades are a great way to stay connected with the community while keeping safe in the comfort of your vehicle. To find out if your neighborhood is hosting a car parade, check out local Facebook groups, contact your HOA, or visit your city’s web site for information. Nothing planned just yet on your block? Plan it yourself! Invite your neighbors to join in or do a bike and stroller parade with your kiddos.

3. Watch a Fireworks Show At Home

Almost all the scheduled firework shows in the Sacramento area have been cancelled, but some cities like Elk Grove are setting off fireworks in undisclosed locations for residents to enjoy from home. Be sure to check with your city or town to find out if a pandemic-safe firework show is happening near you.

4. DIY Fireworks Show

From tiny sparklers to large rockets and fountains, you can light up your sky this year by opting to do your own fireworks show. Visit a TNT Fireworks booth to purchase legal fireworks while supporting the nonprofit organizations and schools that run them. Many TNT booths serve as fundraisers, for example, John F. Kennedy High School's marching band and color guard has had a booth in Lake Crest Village near the corner of Florin Road and Greenhaven Drive for years. Check out the TNT fireworks web site to find a location near you.

5. Go to the Drive-In Movie Theater

With classic and new movies playing, the West Wind Drive-in movie theater is a great way to get entertained this July 4th. Though the concessions stand will be closed and you won’t be able to sit or stand outside of your car, you can still enjoy a night out with family watching a film on the big screen. Be sure to check out their web site for show times and movies playing, as they change each week.
